I tried the solder remelting thing and it worked for just a few weeks. I ran a bead of solder right across the dew sensor and it worked for a few months. I just got the dew message again (in dry conditions). Looks like I'm going to try the magnet th…

Try a few of the other possible fixes first: 1. A couple of people reported that they were not secure about taking a soldering iron to their camera, so just poked the contacts with an ice pick or screw driver, and it began working again. Try this w…

Hi Alan. I Just found this site today and I am glad that I'm not the only person experiencing this problem. I've read through your recommendation(s) involving soldering, but I'm not sure I'm confident enough to fix this on my own. I will try to find…

Here's another "Thank You Alan" post- re-soldering my connections seems to have solved my problem. I am concerned that it may be only a temporary fix though. Has anybody else had luck with running a bead of solder between the posts and bypassing the…

Profile Information

Your Camera Model - VL-Z1U- VL-Z3U- VL-Z5U- VL-Z7U
First 1 was the 3U - currently have one of each which works, and some which don't
How long did you have it before the Dew Message appeared?
About 9 months
Were you able to fix it?
Yes - of the 6 cameras I ended up with, was able to fix 4 of them by resoldering.
Any other brief comments?
Currently using two VL-Z7U cameras for community events, a 1U dedicated as a link to my DVD recorder, a 5U as a dedicated player hooked into my TV. The other two cameras are in a box in many pieces. Haven't had any problems since resoldering.

I just used that name as a whim. I am having the dew problem and I would like to disable the dew sensor for good. I have a feeling that if I either cut one of the leads to it or bridge them together I should be able to either deactivate it or cause it to stay on for ever. My sence of it is that by cutting the leads or at least one, it will no longer be receiving a signal from the sensor. I,m assuming that any signal or too great of a signal is causing the dew shutdown. If it works, I will lose any indication of dew in the future, but that might be better than a permanently dew disabled camera.
