Sharp-VL-Z-Dew-Message

Sharp VL-Z series (1,3,5,7) DEW Message which shuts down camera

What to do with your dead camcorder ??

Greetings all,
Actually, the common phrase is "use it as a boat anchor". However, it really is too small unless you are racing those miniature sail boats on the village pond.

If you haven't been able to repair your Sharp, what are you doing with it?

If you are tired of having your broken Sharp stare you in the face and remind you how you got taken, try selling it on e-bay. Take a glance at E-Bay and you will often see cameras listed "as is - for parts only". Many of these listings will list the Dew Message as the problem (most people are honest in their listings). You may be surprised that you are able to get the cost of refilling your gas tank for something which was sitting around being annoying garbage.

In the past, I've bought a couple of these Dew-Message-Sharps for very reasonable money, and fixed them up by re-soldering. I'm using one of them (a VL-Z1U as a dedicated tape player which feeds into my DVD Recorder. Another VL-Z5U (one of models which has a remote) sits down by my TV where it's used as a dedicated Mini-DV tape player when I want to get a large screen viewing directly from my tapes.

Of course they also make good paper-weights, toys for 4 year olds, etc. :-)

Peace,
Alan
